A stjernebillede, also known as a constellation, is a group of stars that form a recognizable pattern in the night sky. The International Astronomical Union (IAU) recognizes 88 modern constellations, which cover the entire sky.

Constellations are not just random groupings of stars; they often have historical and cultural significance. Constellations are used in various fields, including astronomy, navigation, and astrology. Astronomers use constellations to locate and identify celestial objects. Navigators have historically used the stars to determine their position at sea. Astrology, although not a science, uses the positions of stars and constellations to make predictions about human behavior and events.

The study of constellations has evolved over time. Ancient civilizations, such as the Babylonians, Greeks, and Chinese, had their own sets of constellations. The modern constellation boundaries were established by the IAU in 1922, and they are based on the work of astronomer Eugène Delporte. Today, constellations continue to be a fascinating subject of study and inspiration.
