Stimmsegmente

Stimmsegmente is a term used in German-language discussions of voice and sound to refer to discrete portions of vocal sound. The precise meaning depends on the discipline, and there is no single universal definition.

In phonetics and phonology, a Stimmsegment can denote a span of speech bounded by changes in voicing features. Such segments may be voiced (Stimme vorhanden) or voiceless, and they are relevant for describing the segmental structure, prosody, and the realization of phonemes. In this sense, Stimmsegmente align with segments used to analyze consonants and vowels and their voicing patterns.
