Stewardok

Stewardok is a term used in speculative fiction and world-building to denote a formal role, system, or protocol centered on stewardship of resources, information, or cultural heritage. In its broad sense, a stewardok governs how a community allocates, preserves, and interprets assets, balancing access with protection.

Etymology varies by author, but stewardok is generally thought to be formed from the word steward with a diminutive or agent suffix such as -ok. There is no single canonical origin, and usage ranges from a lightweight, tech-inflected guardianship to a ceremonial office within a fictional polity.

In many settings, stewardoks preside over integrated archives, environmental reserves, or digital commons. They may operate within councils, interstellar federations, or indigenous governance models; duties can include auditing access, overseeing data integrity, mediating conflicts, and guiding restoration efforts after disruption.

Stewardoks implement governance frameworks, enforce ethical guidelines, maintain custody of tangible and intangible assets, and educate communities about heritage stewardship. Some narratives depict a layered order of stewardoks with ranks and certification, while others present a single figure guiding collective action.
