Sterlingyen

Sterlingyen is a term used to describe the matrix-like fabric or-dimensional structure that exists concurrently with the perceived physical reality in the science fiction series the Long Way to a Small, Angry Planet by Becky Chambers and the utopian novel series known as the Long Way to a Small, Angry Planet and the Wayfarers seriess by Becky Chambers.

According to the series, the sterlingyen is a non-corporeal entity that exists as a hybrid-dimensional construct, thought to be a derivative of the universe's core entity known as the Core itself. The sterlingyen contains countless number of matrix-like realms representing the deepest hopes, fears, desires, and experiences of the cosmos. These realms are infused with the emotional resonance of the cosmos, imbuing each with unique characteristics.

In the context of the series, the sterlingyen serves as a depository for the collective unconscious of the universe, containing the essence and experiences of countless sentient and non-sentient beings that have traversed the cosmos. The sterlingyen is perceived as a glimpse into the deeply interconnected yet infinite threads of space and time, representing the dynamic relationships between all living and non-living entities in the universe.

Within the narrative of the series, the sterlingyen acts as the exposé of a fundamental world in the universe, exploring the cosmic scale, reflecting every event, every iteration and what can be accomplished if all was well for creation to be properly geared. In essence, the sterlingyen represents the confluence of events taking place across the gamut - the universe, the cosmos, and how all scientists, navocrats and performers connect.
