Stereoisomeriä

Stereoisomeriä refers to a type of isomerism where molecules have the same molecular formula and the same connectivity of atoms, but differ in the three-dimensional arrangement of their atoms in space. This difference in spatial arrangement leads to distinct physical and chemical properties for stereoisomers, even though they are built from the same components.

There are two main categories of stereoisomeriä: diastereomers and enantiomers. Enantiomers are stereoisomers that are non-superimposable mirror images of each other, much like a left and right hand.
