Stauchwerkzeuge, also known as upsetting tools or forging tools, are specialized implements used in metalworking, primarily in cold forging and hot forging processes. Their function is to deform metal by compressing it, thereby increasing its diameter or creating specific shapes without removing material. This process, known as upsetting or upsetting forging, is highly efficient for producing parts like bolts, screws, shafts, and other headed components.

The principle behind stauchwerkzeuge involves applying a significant compressive force to a portion of a metal workpiece. This force exceeds the yield strength of the material, causing it to flow and expand laterally. Typically, stauchwerkzeuge consist of a die or cavity that encloses the section of the metal to be upset, and a punch or ram that delivers the compressive force. While it allows for larger deformations and a wider range of materials, it may result in slightly less precise dimensions and surface oxidation.

Factors such as material selection for the tool, hardness, lubrication, and precise geometry of the die and punch are essential considerations in their manufacturing and application.
