Statusenas

Statusenas is a genus of small to medium-sized birds belonging to the family Fringillidae, which includes finches and buntings. The genus is native to the Old World, with species found in Africa, Europe, and Asia. Statusenas is monotypic, meaning it contains only one recognized species, Statusenas eremita. This species is commonly known as the rock sparrow or rock bunting.

The rock sparrow is a small bird with a compact body and a short, rounded tail. It has a distinctive appearance, with a grayish-brown back and wings, and a white underbelly. The head is streaked with brown and white, and the eyes are dark brown. The bird's song is a series of clear, whistled notes, often delivered in a series of three or four.

The rock sparrow is found in rocky and mountainous regions, often in areas with sparse vegetation. It is a resident breeder in its range, and the female typically builds a cup-shaped nest in a crevice or under a rock. The clutch usually consists of four to five eggs, which are incubated by the female for about two weeks. Both parents feed the chicks, which fledge after about two weeks.

The rock sparrow is not considered threatened, and its population is stable. However, habitat loss and degradation due to human activities such as agriculture and urbanization pose potential threats to the species. Conservation efforts are focused on protecting and restoring suitable habitats for the rock sparrow.
