The States General, or Staten-Generaal, was the overarching legislative and federal assembly of the Dutch Republic (the United Provinces) from the late 16th century until the end of the 18th century. It coordinated foreign policy, war and peace, and major financial decisions for the constituent provinces, while day-to-day governance remained largely at the provincial level.
