Starczyo

Starczyo is a constructed auxiliary language created to facilitate communication across speakers of Slavic and Romance languages while retaining typological simplicity. It was developed as a collaborative project and first published online in 2018, with subsequent revisions informed by feedback from conlang enthusiasts and linguists.

The language draws on lexical and phonological material from both Slavic and Romance families, selecting cognates and common roots to maximize recognizability. Its grammar emphasizes regularity: a mostly analytic structure with a single nominal case marked by prepositions, three tense distinctions, and a fixed subject-verb-object word order. Morphology is limited to a small set of derivational affixes for word formation and a regular set of suffixes for person and number on verbs.

Orthography uses a Latin-based script with diacritics to represent a modest vowel inventory and palatal consonants. Pronunciation rules are largely phonemic, designed to be learnable by speakers of many European languages. Vocabulary lists and learning materials were made available under permissive licenses to encourage adaptation and study.

Starczyo maintains a modest online community that produces learning resources, sample texts, and music. It has attracted interest from language hobbyists and some academic observers as an example of hybrid auxiliary design, though it has not been adopted for institutional use. Criticisms center on trade-offs between familiarity for target speakers and compromises that reduce expressiveness for others.

The project continues to evolve through community proposals, with periodic updates aimed at improving usability and pedagogical clarity.
