Standardväljane

Standardväljane refers to a political phenomenon in Estonia, where citizens vote for a person running as an independent candidate rather than for a particular party. This can occur at local or national levels. The concept has gained prominence due to the high number of independent candidates elected in various elections.

One of the main reasons for the rise of standardväljane is the electoral system used in Estonia, which is based on proportional representation. This system often leads to coalition governments, making it difficult for citizens to clearly understand the positions of the various parties.
