Standardityöhön is a Finnish term used in Lean manufacturing and process management to describe the practice and goal of standardizing work. It refers to establishing and applying a standard method for performing a task or process, based on the best current practice and guided by clear documentation. The purpose is to create predictability, quality, and safety, while providing a baseline for improvement.

The concept rests on three interrelated elements. First, takt time or the predefined rhythm of a task, which aligns the operator’s work with demand. Second, the standard sequence of operations, detailing the exact steps and their order. Third, the standard inventory and tools required to perform the task, including the arrangement of work aids and the amount of input or WIP kept at the point of work. A standard work combination sheet or equivalent documentation is typically used to capture these elements in a concise form.

Implementation usually follows a structured process. Teams map the current method, identify the best practical sequence, document the standard work, and train operators accordingly. Regular audits and observations verify adherence, while improvement ideas are captured and incorporated to keep the standard up to date.
