Standardityö

Standardityö is a Finnish term for standard work, a central concept in lean production. It describes the documented, repeatable method by which a task should be performed to achieve consistency, quality, and efficiency. The standard work defines three interdependent elements: takt time, which sets the desired production rate to meet demand; the exact sequence of operations and motions; and the standard inventory or tools required to perform the task. The aim is to create a stable baseline from which improvements can be measured and deviations can be detected.

Implementation steps include observing the current method, identifying the best practice, and documenting it as standard work instructions. Determine takt time from demand, define the precise sequence of steps, and specify the required tools, parts, and minimum inventory. Create visual work aids such as method sheets or standard operation cards, train operators, and establish routines to audit adherence. Use deviations as triggers for problem-solving and continuous improvement cycles.
