Spôsobi

Spôsobi is a linguistic term used in Slovak grammar to denote the stem of the verb spôsobiť, which means to cause or bring about. It is not a standalone dictionary word in everyday speech; rather, it appears in linguistic descriptions to explain how the causative verb is formed and inflected.

In standard Slovak, spôsobiť is a perfective verb, and its imperfective counterpart is spôsobovať. The stem spôsobi- is the base used to create different forms through inflection, such as past participles, future forms, and other derived constructions. This stem is commonly shown in grammar references when illustrating causative verbs and their relationship to related words such as spôsobený (caused) and spôsobiť (to cause).

Usage and meaning: spôsobiť is used to express that something brings about a consequence or result. It is employed across formal and informal contexts and often appears with direct objects, for example: Táto udalosť spôsobí škodu (This event will cause damage). In past narrative, one might encounter forms like Udalosť spôsobila škodu (The event caused damage).

Relation to other terms: spôsobiť is related to the verb spôso-bý, and to the imperfective form spôsobovať, which describes a recurring or ongoing causation. The cognate noun spôsobiť is not common; instead, related nouns include spôsobený or spôsobenie, used to refer to something that has been caused.
