Spritzkopf

Spritzkopf is a component of spraying devices, referring to the spray head or nozzle at the end of a device that releases liquid as a spray. The term comes from German, combining spritz (spray) and Kopf (head).

A spritzkopf is typically the end-piece of a spray system and can be fixed or replaceable. It is usually made from metal or plastic and may include a replaceable nozzle insert, an adjustable collar, or an integrated flow-control mechanism. Its design determines the spray pattern, droplet size, and flow rate, and it is often compatible with standard fittings to allow interchangeability with different devices.

Common applications include agricultural and horticultural sprayers, paint or coating sprayers, cleaning equipment, and consumer spray bottles. Variants of spritzkopen (nozzles) encompass hollow-cone, full-cone, and flat-fan designs, as well as mist and atomizing types. Some nozzles are adjustable to change spray angle and flow, while others are fixed for a specific pattern.

Operation relies on forcing liquid through a small orifice under pressure, with the nozzle geometry and fluid properties shaping the resulting spray. In high-precision contexts, air-assisted or atomizing nozzles may be used to improve droplet distribution and coverage.

Maintenance involves regular cleaning to prevent clogging, especially with viscous or particulate-laden liquids. Worn seals or damaged inserts should be replaced to maintain performance and prevent leaks.
