Spritzgussverfahren, also known as injection molding in English, is a manufacturing process used to produce a large number of identical parts. It involves melting a plastic material and injecting it under high pressure into a mold cavity. Once the plastic cools and solidifies, the mold opens, and the finished part is ejected. This method is widely used for creating complex shapes and is suitable for a broad range of polymers, from thermoplastics to thermosets.

The injection molding process begins with the preparation of the mold, which is typically made of steel or aluminum. The mold is designed to have one or more cavities that precisely match the desired shape of the final product. The plastic material, usually in pellet form, is fed into a heated barrel where it is melted by a screw mechanism. This molten plastic is then injected into the mold cavity under significant pressure. The mold is kept closed during this injection and cooling phase.

After a sufficient cooling period, the mold opens, and the part is removed. The cycle time, which includes injection, cooling, and ejection, can vary from seconds to several minutes, depending on the part's size, complexity, and the material used. Spritzgussverfahren is highly efficient for mass production, offering precision, repeatability, and the ability to create intricate designs that would be difficult or impossible to achieve with other manufacturing techniques. Common applications include automotive parts, consumer electronics casings, medical devices, and packaging.
