Sportlastel

Sportlastel is a term used in some sport science discussions to denote the upper bound of sustained athletic performance for a given individual under specified conditions. It is not an officially defined metric in major journals and does not refer to a single standardized test.

The concept combines notions of endurance and power, aiming to capture how long an athlete can maintain a target level of output before a noticeable decline. It is potentially estimated using time-to-exhaustion tests or performance curves from repeated-sprint protocols, with factors such as pacing, motivation, and environmental conditions affecting results.

In training and coaching, sportlastel could guide periodization by identifying when performance may taper, informing recovery needs and intensity distribution. It remains informal and lacks standard measurement protocols, so comparisons across athletes or studies should be conducted with caution. It is not a substitute for established metrics such as VO2 max, lactate threshold, or critical power.
