Spildkontrol

Spildkontrol is a set of practices, equipment, and procedures designed to prevent, contain, and recover spills of liquids in workplaces and environments where liquids are handled. The goal is to minimize environmental impact, health and safety risks, and material loss.

Applications include laboratories, chemical plants, manufacturing facilities, transport and storage terminals, healthcare, and food and beverage operations. Core concepts emphasize preventing spills at the source, using primary containment to capture leaks, and secondary containment to hold larger spills, such as bunded areas, trays, and basins. Spill response measures, including kits and trained personnel, are used to manage incidents quickly and safely.

Common methods and equipment comprise spill kits with absorbents (pads, socks, and granules), containment devices, and temporary barriers; drip trays and secondary containment systems; detection and monitoring for leaks; clear labeling and separation of incompatible materials; and routine housekeeping and maintenance to reduce spill risk.

Response workflow typically involves isolating the source, alerting the appropriate personnel, containing and absorbing the spill, disposing of contaminated material and cleanup residues according to regulations, and reviewing the incident to prevent recurrence. Training and drills are important components of preparedness.

Prevention and planning focus on risk assessment, standard operating procedures, and regular inspections. Organizations implement training programs, maintain and test containment systems, store liquids properly, and develop spill response plans tailored to their operations and materials.
