In such discussions, it is described as a lipid- or water-soluble signaling molecule localized to the sperm plasma membrane or acrosome.

Proposed roles for spermatozoidin in these contexts include participation in capacitation, the acrosome reaction, or chemotactic signaling, and occasional references to involvement in energy metabolism or calcium handling that could influence flagellar motility. Because the molecule has not been validated in peer-reviewed research, its exact properties, mechanisms of action, and physiological relevance are not standardized and vary among sources.

Localization and production are also hypothetical in nature. Some fictional accounts place spermatozoidin within the spermatozoon itself, while others suggest it is acquired during epididymal transit or produced by surrounding reproductive tract tissues and delivered to the sperm. Without experimental confirmation, there is no agreed-upon structure, biosynthesis pathway, or receptor interactions.
