Soybeanbased is an adjective used to describe products, materials, or substances derived from soybeans (Glycine max). In practice, it covers a broad range of items, including food products such as soy milk, tofu, tempeh, and soy protein ingredients, as well as non-food materials like biodegradable plastics, resins, and some biodiesel fuels.

Production and processing: Soybeans are typically cleaned, dehulled, and subjected to oil extraction, with the residual material used for animal feed or further processed into protein concentrates and isolates. Soy oil is refined for cooking and industrial use. Common soy ingredients include soy protein isolate, which is highly purified; soy protein concentrate; soy lecithin, an emulsifier; and fermented products such as miso and tempeh. Fermentation adds texture and flavor in traditional soyfoods.

Uses: In food, soybeanbased products provide plant-based protein and can replace or reduce animal products in diets. Non-food applications include bioplastics, biodegradable resins, adhesives, and lubricants. Soy-based fuels and lubricants are produced from the oil fraction in some markets.

Nutrition and safety: Soy protein supplies amino acids when consumed as part of a varied diet, though individual tolerance varies. Isoflavones are a notable component and have been studied for various health effects. Soy allergies affect a minority of people. Processing and fortification influence nutrient availability. Environmental and economic considerations: Soy cultivation yields high protein per hectare but may raise land-use concerns. Market dynamics reflect demand for plant-based proteins and sustainable materials.
