Soojusvahetite, also known as heat exchangers, are devices designed to efficiently transfer heat between two or more fluids. They are widely used in various industries, including HVAC, automotive, and power generation, to improve energy efficiency and reduce operational costs. Heat exchangers work on the principle of heat transfer, where thermal energy is exchanged between fluids without mixing them. This is achieved through a barrier that separates the fluids, allowing only heat to pass through.

There are several types of heat exchangers, each suited to different applications. Shell and tube heat exchangers are commonly used in industrial processes, featuring a series of tubes through which one fluid flows, surrounded by a shell through which another fluid flows. Plate heat exchangers consist of a stack of thin metal plates with alternating channels for the two fluids, offering high heat transfer efficiency and compact design. Air-cooled heat exchangers use air to dissipate heat, making them suitable for outdoor applications where water is not available.

The performance of a heat exchanger is evaluated based on its thermal efficiency, pressure drop, and compactness. Thermal efficiency refers to the ability of the heat exchanger to transfer heat effectively, while pressure drop indicates the resistance to fluid flow. Compactness is crucial for applications with limited space. Proper design and selection of heat exchangers are essential to ensure optimal performance and reliability in various industrial processes.
