Somatostatinderived refers to molecules or therapeutic agents that are derived from or based on the structure and function of somatostatin. Somatostatin, also known as growth hormone inhibiting hormone (GHIH), is a peptide hormone that plays a crucial role in regulating various physiological processes in the body, including the secretion of growth hormone, thyroid-stimulating hormone, insulin, glucagon, and gastrointestinal peptides. It also affects neurotransmission and cell proliferation.

Additionally, these compounds find application in managing symptoms associated with conditions like watery diarrhea, hypokalemia, and achlorhydria (WDHA syndrome) and in controlling bleeding from esophageal varices.
