Snittforsterkning refers to a construction technique used to strengthen or repair a damaged or weakened structural element, particularly beams or columns, by adding new material. This method is commonly employed when the original cross-section of a structural member is no longer sufficient to carry the required loads due to increased usage, material degradation, or design changes. The process typically involves cutting into the existing element and embedding new reinforcing materials, such as steel or concrete, to enhance its load-bearing capacity.

The application of snittforsterkning can take various forms. In concrete structures, it might involve epoxy injection into cracks followed by the application of external reinforcement like carbon fiber reinforced polymer (CFRP) wraps or new steel plates. For timber structures, it could mean adding new timber sections alongside the existing ones, often fastened with bolts or plates.
