Snarfed

Snarfed is a term with multiple meanings, primarily associated with informal language and fictional contexts. In popular culture, the word "snarf" gained prominence through the animated television series ThunderCats. Within the show, "snarf" was used as an interjection and a verb by the character Snarf, an anthropomorphic cat-like creature. He would often say "Snarf!" as an expression of surprise, excitement, or emphasis, and the action of "snarfing" was sometimes depicted as a quick, almost aggressive, eating or consumption of food.

Beyond its ThunderCats origin, "snarfed" can informally mean to eat something quickly and greedily, often in a messy way. This usage is common in casual conversation and implies a lack of manners or refinement during a meal. It suggests a rapid intake of food, possibly making noise in the process.

In computing, the term "snarf" has a different meaning. It refers to the act of capturing or downloading data from a remote system, particularly from a bulletin board system (BBS) in the early days of personal computing. A user might "snarf" a file or a piece of text from a BBS for later use. This usage is largely obsolete now, replaced by more modern terminology for data transfer. The origin of this computing term is debated, but it is believed to be a portmanteau or an arbitrary invention related to the sound or speed of data acquisition.
