SmitWijsmuller

SmitWijsmuller was a Dutch company primarily known for its heavy lift and towage operations. Formed in 1974 through the merger of Smit International and Wijsmuller Transport, the company became a significant player in the global maritime industry. Smit International brought its extensive experience in salvage and towage, while Wijsmuller contributed its expertise in barge transport and offshore operations.

The company was involved in a wide range of complex marine projects, including the towage of offshore structures, oil rigs, and large vessels. They also provided services for shipyards, port authorities, and oil and gas companies worldwide. SmitWijsmuller was recognized for its fleet of powerful tugboats and specialized barges capable of handling the most demanding assignments. Their operations spanned across the globe, undertaking challenging projects in diverse and often harsh environments.

In 2007, Smit International acquired the remaining shares of SmitWijsmuller, integrating its operations fully into Smit International. This led to the eventual phasing out of the SmitWijsmuller brand name, with its assets and expertise becoming part of the larger Smit International organization. Smit International continued its heavy lift and towage services under its own established name.
