Smeltende is a small coastal village located in the northern part of Vestland county, Norway. Situated at the mouth of the Smeltende fjord, the settlement lies approximately 12 kilometres southwest of the municipal centre of Odda and is accessible via County Road 550. The name Smeltende, derived from the Old Norse word “smelta” meaning “to melt,” refers historically to the seasonal thaw of sea ice that once facilitated local fishing and trade.
