SmartCast

SmartCast is a branding used by Vizio for its line of smart televisions and streaming devices that blends a built-in content discovery interface with casting functionality. The platform is designed to let users browse apps and streaming services on the television screen while enabling content to be started from a mobile device or computer via the Google Cast protocol.

SmartCast devices run a user interface on the TV that includes app tiles and a home screen for accessing streaming services. A companion mobile app is provided to help set up devices, manage apps, and initiate casting. The platform relies on Google Cast to stream content from Cast-enabled apps such as YouTube, Netflix, and other streaming services, and may provide access to additional apps through software updates.

Voice and smart home compatibility vary by model and region, with some Vizio TVs supporting Google Assistant and/or Alexa through compatible remotes or devices. Over time, Vizio has updated SmartCast with app additions and performance improvements, while newer TVs continue to ship with updated software to support newer streaming services.
