Smallwheeled describes vehicles or robotic platforms that use wheels with small diameters relative to the overall size of the device or the environments in which they operate. This design choice is common in indoor robotics, compact consumer devices, and small utility carts where a low-profile or compact footprint is advantageous. While there is no universal cut-off, small wheels are typically under about 100 to 200 millimeters in diameter, depending on the application.

Key design considerations for small-wheeled systems include wheel diameter, ground clearance, traction, and suspension interaction. Smaller wheels allow tighter packaging, easier motor integration, and often stronger low-speed torque. They can enable rapid acceleration and compact skid- or differential-drive layouts. However, small wheels reduce obstacle clearance, increase the likelihood of tipping on uneven terrain or slopes, and tend to have higher rolling resistance on rough surfaces. They also require careful suspension or chassis design to manage vibrations and maintain stability.

Applications span several fields. In robotics, small-wheeled platforms are used for indoor service robots, educational kits, and research prototypes that operate on smooth floors. Automated guided vehicles and material-handling robots in controlled environments may employ small wheels to fit under shelves or around tight aisles. Consumer devices such as robotic vacuums and other compact service robots routinely rely on small wheels, sometimes complemented by omnidirectional wheels or caster mechanisms to improve maneuverability.
