Småsatellittplattformer, often referred to as CubeSats or small satellite buses, are standardized modular units designed to carry payloads into space. These platforms have significantly lowered the barrier to entry for space missions due to their reduced size, cost, and complexity compared to traditional large satellites. The most common standard is the CubeSat, which is typically a 10x10x10 cm cube. Larger configurations, such as 3U (three cubes stacked) or 6U, are also widely used.

The primary purpose of these platforms is to provide a robust and reliable structure, power, communication, and attitude control for scientific instruments, communication transponders, or other payloads. They are designed for rapid development and deployment, often launched as secondary payloads on larger rockets. This accessibility has fostered innovation in various fields, including Earth observation, scientific research, technology demonstration, and even education.
