Slideover

Slideover is a multitasking feature on iPadOS that lets a second app appear in a floating panel that slides in from the edge of the screen, overlaying the app currently in use. The panel is narrow and can be positioned on either side, providing quick reference or lightweight interaction without leaving the primary app.

Users typically access Slide Over by dragging an app from the Dock or App Switcher to the edge of the screen. The Slide Over window can be moved to the left or right by dragging its top bar, and it can be dismissed by swiping the panel off the screen. The secondary app can also be converted into a Split View arrangement by dragging the Slide Over window toward the edge until both apps share the screen.

Slide Over is designed for temporary tasks such as checking information, copying text, or responding to a message while continuing to use the main app. Because it overlays rather than replaces the primary app, it allows users to multitask with minimal context switching. The feature is available on compatible iPad models running iPadOS, with its behavior refined across versions to improve gesture control and window management.
