Skumreglering

Skumreglering refers to the control or suppression of foam in industrial processes and other applications. Foam, which is a dispersion of gas in a liquid, can cause significant problems by reducing the efficiency of equipment, leading to overflow, hindering product quality, and complicating handling and processing.

Various methods are employed for skumreglering. One common approach involves the use of chemical additives called defoamers or antifoams. These substances are designed to reduce the surface tension of the liquid, causing the foam bubbles to rupture and collapse. They are typically added in small concentrations and work by spreading rapidly across the foam lamellae and displacing the stabilizing surfactants.

Mechanical methods are also used. These can include sprayers that break foam bubbles with a jet of liquid or air, or devices that agitate the liquid surface to disrupt foam structure. In some cases, changes in process parameters like temperature, pressure, or flow rate can also help to prevent or reduce foam formation.
