Skumets

Skumets are a river valley community in the fictional continent of Eldoria. They live in the Kerinth basin and surrounding upland terraces, and are noted for a distinct language, craft traditions, and a clan-based social structure. In ethnographic accounts, they are recognized for canoe building, timber work, and seasonal migrations between lowland fields and highland forests.

The name Skumets is thought to derive from the Skumat word skume, meaning water or stream, reflecting the group’s long-standing association with rivers and waterways.

Their settlements cluster along the Kerinth River and its tributaries, where subsistence farming, fishing, and forest products sustain most households. Common crafts include carved wooden totems, woven textiles, and the construction of dugout canoes used for transport and fishing.
