Skriket

Skriket is a fictional bat-and-ball team sport created in the late 20th century. It is designed as a hybrid of traditional cricket and field sports, played on an oval field with a central scoring mechanism and multiple outer targets. The game is presented as having formal rules, tournaments, and a governing body, the Skriket Association, though its existence remains within the world where it was conceived.

The playing area is an oval field approximately 60 to 70 meters in diameter. Each team fields nine players and alternates between offense and defense in two halves of play. A match typically lasts about 40 minutes, divided into two equal halves with a short break. Play begins with a bowler delivering the ball toward a batter stationed at a crease. The batter uses a flat bat to strike the ball and attempt to score by sending it through a central ring suspended above the field or into two peripheral rings located beyond the crease. Scores from central-ring hits are higher than those from peripheral rings. In addition, teams can accumulate runs by running between marked creases after the ball is struck.

Dismissals can occur when the fielding side catches a struck ball on the full, hits one of the ring posts with the ball to halt a scoring attempt, or fails to prevent a batter from completing a run. Equipment includes a wooden bat, a leather ball, and lightweight protective gear. Domestic leagues and occasional international matches are organized under the Skriket Association, with a developing following in several regions and youth programs.
