Definition: A skalanleg system can accommodate increases in workload with proportionate changes in capacity or performance, often through horizontal scaling, automation, and resilient design. It implies not only the potential to scale but also the operational readiness to do so when needed.

Core characteristics include modular architecture, cloud-native patterns, stateless services, autoscaling, distributed data stores, caching strategies, load balancing, and thorough observability. Data governance and capacity planning are also essential to maintain predictable performance at larger scale.
