Skalandic is a constructed language developed for speculative fiction and linguistic experimentation. It is designed to evoke the culture and geography of a fictional North Atlantic region and serves as the primary means of communication within that setting.

Phonology and writing: The language has a consonant and vowel inventory reminiscent of Northern European languages, with vowel length and stress contributing to meaning. Skalandic uses a Latin-based alphabet in contemporary texts, with diacritics to indicate vowel length. In historical material within the fiction, a rune-inspired script is described as having ceremonial use.

Grammar: Skalandic follows a largely subject–verb–object word order in main clauses. Nouns mark number (singular or plural) and may take determiners to indicate definiteness. It features regional varieties, including Northern Skalandic and Maritime Skalandic dialects. In fiction and role-playing materials, it is accompanied by pronunciation guides, sample texts, and grammar notes produced by authors and fan communities.
