Skagastøl

Skagastøl is a mountain massif located in the Jotunheimen mountain range in Norway. It is part of the Hurrungane sub-range, known for its dramatic peaks and challenging climbing routes. The highest point of the Skagastøl massif is Store Skagastølstind, often referred to as simply "Storen," which stands at 2,405 meters (7,890 feet) above sea level. Storen is considered one of the most iconic and difficult mountains to climb in Norway.

The Skagastøl massif consists of several prominent peaks, including Vesle Skagastølstind, Midtre Skagastølstind, and Nordre Skagastølstind, in addition to Storen. These peaks present a variety of climbing challenges, from moderate scrambles to technical rock and ice ascents. The area is a popular destination for experienced mountaineers and climbers, particularly during the summer months when the snow and ice conditions are more favorable.

Access to Skagastøl typically involves a hike from the Turtagrø Hotel or the Vågåmo area. The approach to the climbing routes often requires navigating steep scree slopes and rocky terrain. The classic route up Storen is known as the "Mohns gate" and involves exposed ridges and a famous chimney climb. Due to the demanding nature of the climbs and the potential for rapid weather changes in the mountains, proper preparation, equipment, and experience are essential for anyone attempting to ascend the Skagastøl peaks.
