Självaktualisering

Självaktualisering, or self-actualization, is a concept in psychology that refers to the realization or fulfillment of one's potential. It represents the highest level in Abraham Maslow's hierarchy of needs, signifying a state where an individual has met their basic physiological and safety needs, as well as their needs for love, belonging, and esteem. Once these foundational needs are satisfied, the drive shifts towards personal growth, creativity, and the pursuit of one's unique capabilities and purpose.

Self-actualization is not a destination but rather a continuous process. Individuals who are self-actualizing tend to possess certain characteristics. They are often more accepting of themselves and others, spontaneous, creative, and possess a strong sense of morality. They tend to have a deep appreciation for life, experience peak moments of profound joy and fulfillment, and are driven by intrinsic motivation rather than external rewards.

Maslow described self-actualized individuals as those who are fully functioning, living rich and meaningful lives. They are often problem-centered rather than self-centered, and they have a clear sense of reality and a commitment to their own personal growth and development. While not everyone may reach this peak level, the pursuit of self-actualization is seen as a fundamental aspect of human motivation and well-being.
