Sizning

Sizning is a possessive determiner in Uzbek that marks possession by the person being addressed. It translates roughly as "your" in English and is used to indicate that something belongs to the addressee. The form is built from the pronoun siz, meaning "you," plus the possessive suffix ning, and it is written as sizning in the Latin script (and сизнинг in Cyrillic).

In Uzbek, possessive forms typically attach to the noun they modify, but sizning can also appear in emphatic or explicit constructions where the possessor is stressed or clarified. The phrase sizning is commonly encountered in everyday speech and writing, often before a noun to show possession or in questions about ownership. For example, in a sentence like Sizning fikringiz nima? the possessive sense of “your” is conveyed, with emphasis on the addressee’s opinion.

For plural address, a corresponding form is used to indicate possession by multiple people. This plural possessive is formed with a different suffix pattern (often expressed as sizlarning) when it precedes a noun, to indicate that the noun belongs to the group being spoken to. The exact form depends on the noun and its phonological context.

Sizning is part of the broader Uzbek possessive system, which marks person and number through suffixes attached to the noun or, less frequently, to the pronoun. It is closely related to other second-person possessives and functions across formal and informal registers in both spoken and written Uzbek.
