Sisäperämoottorit

Sisäperämoottorit, often referred to as sterndrive or inboard/outboard (I/O) engines, are a type of marine propulsion system that combines features of both inboard and outboard motors. The engine itself is located inside the boat's hull, similar to an inboard engine, but it is connected to a drive unit that extends through the transom and into the water. This drive unit typically includes the propeller, gearbox, and trim and tilt mechanism.

The primary advantage of a sisäperämoottori is its combination of inboard engine power and efficiency with the maneuverability and space-saving benefits of an outboard. The engine is protected within the hull, offering a more streamlined and quieter operation compared to a fully exposed outboard. The drive unit, also known as the sterndrive, can be swiveled for steering and adjusted for trim, allowing for optimal performance and shallow water operation.

Sisäperämoottorit are commonly found in a wide range of recreational boats, from runabouts and cruisers to smaller sport fishing vessels. They offer a good balance of power, fuel efficiency, and ease of use. Maintenance typically involves servicing the engine within the hull and the drive unit externally. The sterndrive can be raised out of the water for storage or maintenance, which also helps to reduce drag when the boat is not in use.
