Siocessaceae
Siocessaceae is a proposed family of fungi that was described in 2019. It is placed within the order Hypocreales, which is a diverse group of fungi known for their often brightly colored ascocarps and their association with insects or plants. The classification of Siocessaceae is based on molecular phylogenetic studies, which analyze the genetic material of the fungi to determine their evolutionary relationships. Currently, the family contains a single genus, Siocessia, with one described species, Siocessia aetherea. This species was originally described as Cordyceps aethereus in 1883 and was later reclassified. Fungal taxonomy is a dynamic field, and the placement of Siocessaceae within the fungal tree of life may be subject to revision as more research is conducted and new data become available. Further studies are needed to fully understand the biology, ecology, and phylogenetic position of this group of fungi.
