Sinusarytmi

Sinusarytmi refers to a normal heart rhythm originating from the sinus node. The sinus node, located in the upper right chamber of the heart (the right atrium), acts as the heart's natural pacemaker. It generates electrical impulses that cause the heart to contract and pump blood. When the heart beats in a sinus rhythm, these impulses are initiated regularly by the sinus node and spread through the atria, then to the ventricles, resulting in a consistent and orderly heartbeat.

A sinus rhythm is characterized by a regular heart rate that typically falls within a normal range, usually between 60 and 100 beats per minute for adults at rest. The electrocardiogram (ECG or EKG) is the primary tool used to diagnose a sinus rhythm. On an ECG, a sinus rhythm shows specific patterns, including a P wave for every QRS complex, indicating that each beat originates from the sinus node and is conducted properly through the heart's electrical pathways.

While a sinus rhythm is considered normal, variations can occur. Sinus tachycardia is a sinus rhythm with a heart rate exceeding 100 beats per minute, often due to physical activity, stress, fever, or certain medical conditions. Conversely, sinus bradycardia is a sinus rhythm with a heart rate below 60 beats per minute, which can be normal in athletes or may indicate an underlying issue. Sinus arrhythmia is a variation where the heart rate subtly speeds up and slows down, often in sync with breathing. This is a common and usually benign finding, especially in children and young adults. Overall, maintaining a sinus rhythm is crucial for efficient heart function.
