Silkatityypit refers to the classification of silk types based on their origin, production methods, and inherent characteristics. Broadly, silks can be categorized into two main groups: natural silks and artificial silks. Natural silks are derived from the cocoons of silkworms, primarily the Bombyx mori silkworm, which produces mulberry silk, the most common and widely used type. Other natural silks include tussah silk, from wild silkworms, which is coarser and has a natural golden hue, and eri silk, known for its softness and is often referred to as "ahimsa silk" as the moths are allowed to emerge from the cocoons.
