Siipipumput

Siipipumput, also known as vane pumps, are a type of positive displacement pump. They operate using a rotor with slots that hold vanes. As the rotor spins within a cam or eccentric housing, centrifugal force pushes the vanes outwards, creating chambers of varying volume.

The pumping action begins as the rotor turns. The expanding chambers on one side of the pump draw fluid in through the inlet port. As the rotor continues to rotate, these chambers shrink on the opposite side, forcing the fluid out through the outlet port under pressure. The vanes maintain a seal against the housing, ensuring efficient displacement.

Siipipumput are known for their relatively simple design and quiet operation. They are commonly used in applications requiring moderate pressures and flow rates, such as hydraulic systems, lubrication systems, and fuel transfer. Different designs exist, including balanced vane pumps which use an elliptical housing to reduce radial hydraulic forces and improve efficiency. Maintenance is generally straightforward due to the limited number of moving parts. Their ability to handle a range of fluid viscosities also makes them versatile.
