Sihanoukville

Sihanoukville is a coastal city in southwestern Cambodia, located on the Gulf of Thailand. It is the capital of Preah Sihanouk Province and serves as a major deep-water port as well as a focal point for tourism and investment. The city has experienced rapid development in recent years, driven in large part by external investment, including funds from China, for hotel, casino, and infrastructure projects.

Name and status: The city is named after King Norodom Sihanouk. The wider province was renamed Preah Sihanouk Province in 2018, while the city remains the provincial capital. The port area supports industrial and container activities, and the surrounding area contains beaches and resort developments.

Geography and attractions: Sihanoukville has several popular beaches, including Ochheuteal (Serendipity) Beach, Otres Beach, and Sokha Beach. Nearby natural areas include Ream National Park. The city is also a gateway for ferry services to offshore islands such as Koh Rong and Koh Rong Samloem, which are major destinations for domestic and international visitors.
