Sido

Sido is the stage name of Paul Würdig, a German rapper and actor born in East Berlin in 1980. He rose to prominence in the German hip hop scene in the early 2000s as a member of the underground collective Die Sekte. Known for performing with a metal skull mask, he adopted the Sido persona and released his debut album Maske in 2004 on the Aggro Berlin label. The album drew attention for its provocative lyrics and masked image, contributing to debates about violence and explicit content in rap.

In 2006 he released Ich, a more commercially oriented work that helped establish his mainstream status in Germany. Over the following years he released additional albums and singles, expanding his musical range to include hooks and production styles that appealed to a broader audience while maintaining elements of his hardcore rap roots. He has worked with various artists and appeared in film and television projects, reflecting a versatility beyond music.

Sido’s career spans two decades in the German music industry. He is widely recognized for his enduring presence in German hip hop, his distinctive stage persona, and his role in shaping the popularity of masked and confrontational rap during the 2000s. Beyond music, he has engaged in charitable activities and public media appearances, contributing to broader cultural conversations in Germany.
