Shortpetiolate

It is essentially an intermediate state between petiolate leaves, which have a noticeable stalk, and sessile leaves, which lack a stalk entirely.

In practice, shortpetiolate describes leaves whose petiole length is minimal, typically only a few millimeters, though there is no universal cut-off and the precise interpretation can vary among authors and taxa. The distinction is typically qualitative, supported by measurements or drawings in field notes or herbarium descriptions. The morphology can influence leaf presentation, photosynthetic light capture, and susceptibility to mechanical damage, depending on the plant's growth form and habitat; however, there is no universal functional implication associated with the trait.
