SharedLizenzen is a family of open content licenses designed to facilitate the sharing, reuse, and redistribution of digital assets across software, media, and educational resources. Rather than a single license, it defines a framework of variants that creators can apply to works, balancing freedom with clear attribution and governance rules.

The core principles emphasize attribution, freedom to use and adapt, and intercompatibility with other licenses. Most variants require credit to the original author and inclusion of the license notice. Depending on the chosen variant, derivative works may be required to carry the same terms or may be unrestricted.

Prominent variants include Shared-Attribution (mandatory attribution), Shared-ShareAlike (derivatives must use a compatible SharedLizenzen), Shared-NoCommercial (no commercial use), and Shared-NoDerivatives (no modifications). The framework also supports non-commercial allowances and plain redistribution under compatible terms, aiming to reduce license fragmentation.

Governance is provided by the SharedLizenzen Council, a nonprofit organization that maintains the license registry, defines term definitions, and handles dispute resolution. The ecosystem includes repositories and platforms that tag assets with the appropriate variant to signal reuse terms to users.

Reception is mixed. Proponents argue that SharedLizenzen improves clarity and interoperability among licenses; critics warn that multiple variants can create confusion and hinder reuse. As with any licensing framework, legal status depends on jurisdiction and how terms are applied.
