ShapeSpecific is a term used to describe methods, analyses, or models that are tailored to a particular geometric shape rather than designed to work equally well for all shapes. In practice, shape-specific approaches exploit known structural properties of a target shape to improve accuracy, efficiency, or robustness. The term is used across disciplines such as computational geometry, computer graphics, computer vision, and numerical analysis, though as a coined concept it does not have a single formal definition.

In geometry and meshing, shape-specific strategies may favor element shapes or parameterizations aligned with the target polygon, circle, or surface. In computer graphics, shape-specific shading, tessellation, or texture mapping can reduce artifacts when the scene or object has a distinct geometric form. In computer vision, shape-specific priors or feature extractors leverage expected contours to improve recognition and segmentation. In numerical methods, basis functions or coordinate transforms tailored to a circle, ellipse, or rectangle yield faster convergence.

Shape-specific approaches trade generality for performance tied to the assumed shape. Misidentification of the target shape can degrade results. The term shapespecific can also appear as shape-specific, and sometimes as a concatenated form shapespecific in informal writing, with its meaning inferred from context.
