Shantadurga

Shantadurga is a prominent Hindu goddess, primarily worshipped in the Indian state of Goa. Her name translates to "goddess of peace," reflecting her benevolent nature. Shantadurga is often depicted as a four-armed deity, holding a trident in one hand and a serpent in another, signifying her power over both destruction and creation. She is revered as a protector of the community and a bestower of blessings.

The main temple dedicated to Shantadurga is located in the village of Kavlem in Goa. This ancient temple is renowned for its intricate architecture and vibrant festivals. The deity is believed to have been brought to Goa centuries ago, and her worship has since become an integral part of Goan culture. Many Goans consider Shantadurga their guardian deity, and her annual festival, known as Jāgrata, is a grand affair celebrated with great devotion, featuring elaborate rituals, music, and dance.

Shantadurga is also associated with the tale of her intervention in a fierce battle between the gods Shiva and Vishnu.
