Shaktism is one of the major traditions within Hinduism. It focuses on the worship of the Goddess, also known as Devi, Shakti, or Mahadevi, as the supreme being. Followers of Shaktism believe that the divine feminine is the source of all creation, preservation, and destruction. Shakti is seen as the primordial cosmic energy that animates the universe.

The Goddess is worshipped in various forms, each representing different aspects of her power. Prominent among these are the warrior goddess Durga, the benevolent goddess Lakshmi (associated with wealth and prosperity), the goddess of knowledge and arts Saraswati, and the fierce goddess Kali (often associated with time, change, and destruction). Other important forms include Parvati, the consort of Shiva, and her various manifestations like Sati and Uma.

Shaktism has a rich philosophical and theological tradition, often intertwined with Tantra. Tantric practices, which can include meditation, mantra recitation, and rituals, are employed to realize the divine feminine within oneself and in the universe. The ultimate goal is often liberation (moksha) and union with the divine feminine.

Festivals and rituals play a significant role in Shaktism, with major celebrations like Durga Puja and Navaratri dedicated to the Goddess. Pilgrimage to sacred sites associated with her worship is also common. While distinct, Shaktism shares many concepts with other Hindu traditions, particularly Shaivism, and the deities are often seen as different aspects of a single, ultimate reality.
