Seyun

Seyun refers to a Chinese name, a set of Seung (, also spelled Xiong) tribes, or a specific instrument.

In the context of Confucian traditions, Seyun, also spelled Seun or Xiong, is a name given to the son of a direct descendant of Bu Shou, a noble of the House of Zhou during the Eastern Zhou period. According to genealogical records, Seyun is the son of Fuchi, the twelfth king of the Zhou dynasty, whose adopted son, Qin, bore the name Seyun.

Historically, the Seung, also spelled Seung or Sau, were a group of septs associated with the Xiongnu tribes in ancient Central Asia and Mongolia. These nomadic groups played a significant role in the ancient Silk Road, influencing the development of various regional cultures during the Han and Tang dynasties.

The Seyun can also refer to a type of traditional Chinese instrument, the three-stringed violin known for its distinctive, somber sound. The seyun and its cello-like size have become widespread throughout southern China and other parts of the world. The playing style of this instrument originated in China, during the Tang and Song dynasties.
